SENIOR DRILLING ENGINEER (SDE)
ITEM LEVEL COMMENT

Formal Qualification Experience		 Graduate degree in relevant
engineering or earth sciences.		 Alternative qualifications may be accepted by
the Drilling and Completions Manager.
Total Drilling Engineering experience of more than 10 years with more than 5 years as
a Senior Drilling Engineer.
Experience must include Deep Water / Horizontal / Extended-Reach well design.


Additional Courses		 Casing Design Drill String Design Cementing Design Geomechanics
Basic Drilling Fluid Engineering Drilling Hydraulics & Mechanics
ERD and Complex Well Design
These courses are provided by specialist service companies or schools and will be reviewed by Drilling Team Leader prior to engagement.

Certification
Well Control Certificate (IWCF) for floating operations.		 This is a basic requirement to demonstrate well pressure control competence regardless of responsibilities at offshore. Holding a
current certificate is desirable.

  • Request information required by Customer (follow up as
necessary).



Plan


Drilling Program Preparation
  • Prepare Contractor information packages.
  • Review stakeholder input and request additional inputs for modifications.
  • Prepare Drilling Program in accordance with the process and procedures
  • Ensure Drilling Program addresses all identified hazards.
  • Prepare AFE.
  • Organize materials and equipment as directed by Drilling Team Leader.
  • Prepare presentation of Draft Drilling Program.
 
   
  • Issue Final Drilling Program.
  • Present at pre-spud meeting and issue minutes.
  • Analyze and improve the planning process.
Procure materials equipment or
services
  • Prepare technical justification with costs.
  • Prepare approval form for Drilling Manager approval.







Implement




Routine Operation Support
  • Review Daily Drilling Report shared by operation site and revise to issue official DDR
  • Identify requirements for modifications to ongoing operations and discuss with Drilling Team Leader and Drilling Superintendent.
  • Identify deviations from ongoing Drilling Program and inform to Drilling Team Leader.
  • Provide Technical input as required.
  • Prepare agenda for Weekly Drilling Meeting.
  • Write and distribute minutes for Weekly Drilling Meeting and follow up action items.
  • Participate in incident/accident investigations and follow up.
  • Make Learning Register entries for analysis as required.
  • Carry out After Action Review (AAR) after each operation
Written Modification to Drilling Program
  • Prepare Modified Drilling Program in accordance with process and procedures.
  • Obtain contractor input and discuss as required.
Logistics Support
  • Assist Drilling Superintendent with management of logistics
as directed by Drilling Team Leader.




Analyze

Well Analysis & Review
  • Review Learning Register.
  • Prepare statistical data and analyze.
  • Undertake technical analysis and make improvement recommendations.
  • Prepare Well Analysis.
  • Prepare Process Review.
  • Make additional Learning Register entries if required.

Maintain Learning Register
  • Review Reports and suggestions and make Learning Register entry.
  • Undertake technical analysis and make improvement recommendations.
  • Update and distribute Learning Register.
Improve Update DCMS
  • Draft Drilling & Completion Management System Revisions.
 

Support		 Contract
Management
  • Verify Invoices are consistent with services and contract.
  • Liaise with legal & finance as requested.
General
Administration
  • Update well and administration filling system.
