Job Description: Key Result Areas (Key Accountabilities)

1. Receive work orders, discuss work required with the Electrical Supervisor, and estimate time, materials or spare parts required to complete the work. Receive schedule of repairs, with appropriate Permit to Work (PTW) and arranges for tools, wiring diagrams and test equipment.

2. Carry out electrical equipment fault finding and repair work. Diagnose, check and repair faults on various items of equipment in the power generation and distribution system, including Air Conditioning (AC) generators, Auto Voltage Regulators, synchronising equipment and protection relays. Use multi meters, insulation resistance meters, and cable fault location techniques on motors, electronic control systems and circuit breakers. Repair faults by repairing or replacing parts on relays, breakers, contractors, isolators, and other switchgear components. Test unit using various test equipment (voltmeters, current meters, etc.) before and after repairs to ensure work has been carried out correctly.

3. Carry out the routine maintenance of various power generation and distribution equipment and related switchgear, and other equipment such as motors, pumps, chlorine units, elevators, transformers, cranes and hoists and Gas Turbine equipment. Include inspecting and testing equipment according to checklists and calibrate relays as required. Clean and replace defective or worn parts, repairs starters, drive systems, generators, alternators, and switches. Complete maintenance tasks, restart, and test equipment in running condition.

4. Carry out workshop overhauls of electrical equipment. Include stripping down units, changing parts, replacing electronic cards and bench testing equipment before re-installation. Maintain various electrical tools, test equipment and domestic appliances such as kitchen ranges, dishwashers, hot water boilers, washing machines, onboard entertainment systems and ensure that all function correctly. Keep workshop tools and the test bench in clean and operational condition at all times and identify requirements for consumable supplies, tools and equipment.

5. Carry out various maintenance and repair tasks on industrial and nonindustrial lighting systems; fault finding on both fluorescent and discharge types and repairing control systems. Repair and test explosion proof equipment and ensure correct glanding and earthing is carried out in accordance with applicable standards. Carry out all earthing activities and recognise the necessity for good earthing, particularly in hazardous areas.

6. Carry out all activities in accordance with Company safety procedures andmanufacturer's  , ensure that all precautions are taken to isolate equipment prior to commencing work following all safety instructions and notices and ensure wearing protective equipment at all times.

7. Complete work orders/cards with details of maintenance or repairs carried out, fault diagnosed materials and man hours used to complete the work.

8. Assist in the installation and testing of new electrical equipment and systems and ensure equipment of installation meets Hazardous area classification.
 
9. Assist in major shutdown and overhaul work, which includes the dismantling, testing of electrical equipment including high voltage motors and starters, switchgear, and feeder breakers. Review history on breakdowns or trips, check starter contacts and the operation of mechanical interlocks. Carry out all restart and function testing of equipment.

10. Carry out other similar or related duties which includes jointing and splicing of cables; keeping electrical drawings and records up to date; maintaining personal tools and workshop equipment.

11. Carry out cable/ conduit installation and repairs.

12. Work towards completion of Competency Development Assurance (CDA) assessment scheme.

13. Participate in Company Safety programme.

Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Job Related Competencies
Educational Qualifications:

• Completion of Secondary (10 years) education, followed by 3 years Diploma or apprenticeship in Electrical, Mechanical, Control or Instrumentation.

Experience Profile:

 

• 4-5 years' varied installation maintenance and repair experience in a power generation and distribution environment, ideally within the Oil and Gas/
• Petrochemical industry, with some knowledge of related instrumentation.
• CompEx certification (EX 01, EX02, EX03 and EX04) for carrying out
• installation and inspections of Electrical equipments in Hazardous locations.
• Thermography level-1 certification for carrying out thermography survey on Electrical equipments. (Optional)
• Basic knowledge in Program Logic Control (PLC) and experience in variable speed drives.
• Experience and knowledge with Diesel Generators.
• Should have working knowledge of computer applications software such as
• Microsoft Office/ Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).

Competencies/Skills/Others:

• Good knowledge of written and spoken English.
